[i] Election was scheduled for April 18, 2019 but was delayed due to protests against long-time incumbent President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, who was eventually forced to resign on April 2.
[ii] Fresh elections were called as none of the party or coalition could form government after a hung parliament.
[iii] Election were initially scheduled for December 2018 and were later scheduled for early 2019 but have been indefinitely deferred due to the ongoing civil war.
[iv]Term of the current council was renewed by an Emiri Decree on 17 June 2016[iv] and it ended on 30 June 2019

Minakshi Sardar has received her Ph. D. from the Centre for West Asian Studies, School of International Studies, JNU, New Delhi. Her doctoral thesis was on the Process of Normalization of Israel-Vatican Relations, 1948-1993. She did her M Phil from the same centre on Israel’s Responses to Hostage Taking. Her area of interest focuses Middle East politics, Arab-Israeli Conflict, Christianity, security issues, and conflict resolutions. She has presented at several conferences and seminars on the region. She has been preparing China Watch (since August 2015), Election Watch (since July 2017) for MEI. She is an Editorial Assistant of the Journal of Indo-Judaic Studies since 2020.
