Ambassador Singh has served in the Indian Ministry of External Affairs for over three decades. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1976 and retired in April 2013 during which he held numerous senior positions in headquarters and in the Indian Missions in Mexico, Germany, Ghana, Vietnam and France. He served as India’s Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City from October 1997 to June 2001; as Deputy Chief of Mission in Paris (from July 2001 to August 2004) and as Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary (Gulf) (March 2005 to March 2009). He served as India’s Ambassador to Iran from March 2009 to March 2011 and took over as the Secretary (East) in the Ministry of External Affairs until his superannuation in April 2013. Since retirement he has been working with Institutions on issues related to foreign affairs and was President of the Association of Indian Diplomats. He has been following developments in West Asia and India’s relations with the region and participating in numerous activities related to the study of West Asia.
